Retegui Rescues Point For Atalanta as Juventus draw again

Juventus’s frustrating trend of draws continued as they were held to a 1-1 stalemate by Atalanta in Serie A. Mateo Retegui’s late equalizer cancelled out Pierre Kalulu’s second-half strike, leaving Juventus with their 13th draw in 20 league matches this season. The result keeps Juventus in fifth place with 34 points, while Atalanta remain third with 43 points, four points behind leaders Napoli.

Kalulu gave Juventus the lead nine minutes after the restart, finishing off a swift counter-attack. However, Atalanta grew into the game and found an equalizer through substitute Retegui, who marked his return from injury with a diving header in the 78th minute.

Despite the draw, both teams achieved some notable milestones. Atalanta extended their unbeaten run in Serie A to 15 games, while Juventus manager Thiago Motta, who watched the game from the stands due to a red card, became only the second manager in the club’s history to remain unbeaten in his first 20 Serie A matches.

Motta’s Mixed Emotions

Motta expressed his disappointment at the draw, but also acknowledged his team’s performance.

“It’s clear that we can’t be happy with the result; we go on the pitch to win. We played well, created some interesting situations, but we weren’t good enough to score,” Motta said.

“It’s true that we have drawn a lot this season and are not happy about that, we cannot be happy with a draw. However, they [the players] performed well. I have to acknowledge the effort and the performance.”

Retegui’s equalizer propelled him to the top of the Serie A scoring charts with 13 goals. The Argentine striker has been in impressive form this season and continues to be a key player for Atalanta. Both teams had chances to win the game, with Juventus hitting the post through Kalulu and Atalanta going close through Ademola Lookman. In the final minutes, both goalkeepers made crucial saves to deny Manuel Locatelli and Nicolò Zaniolo.

Juventus will be hoping to turn their draws into wins as they continue their pursuit of a top-four finish. Their inability to secure victories is hindering their progress, and Motta will be looking for solutions in the upcoming matches.
