Mohamed Salah continued his record-breaking season, scoring two penalties in Liverpool’s 3-1 comeback victory over Southampton, further solidifying his place in the club’s history. The win extends Liverpool’s lead at the top of the Premier League.

Southampton took a surprise lead just before halftime through Will Smallbone, capitalizing on a defensive error. However, Liverpool, after a “sloppy” first-half performance according to reports, improved significantly in the second period. Darwin Nunez equalized, before Salah’s two penalties secured the three points.

The brace saw Salah surpass Gordon Hodgson on Liverpool’s all-time top goalscorers list, with the Egyptian now boasting a remarkable 243 goals for the club. This achievement adds to a season already laden with records for the 32-year-old forward, who has now registered 54 goal contributions.

The penalties, one earned by Nunez and the other awarded for handball after a VAR review, were clinically dispatched by Salah. The victory maintains Liverpool’s momentum in the Premier League title race, while also highlighting Salah’s continued importance to the team’s success.
