Southampton Stuns Man City with Goalless Draw

Manchester City’s pursuit of a higher Champions League spot was unexpectedly hampered on Saturday as they were held to a 0-0 draw by relegated Southampton.

Manchester City, positioned third in the league, entered the match heavily favored to secure three points. A win would have put them level on points with second-placed Arsenal. Despite dominating possession and the return of star striker Erling Haaland, City was unable to score.

For Southampton, the draw brings their season total to 12 points. This result means they will not be the joint-worst team in Premier League history, moving them one point ahead of Derby County’s 2007-08 tally of 11 points.

While the draw was a setback, Manchester City remains in a strong position to finish in the Premier League top five, thus securing a Champions League qualification for next season. They currently hold a four-point lead over sixth-placed Nottingham Forest, though Forest has a game in hand.
