Champions League Knockout Stage Takes Shape: Who’s Through, Who’s Out, and Playoff Draw Details
The Champions League group stage concluded with a thrilling final matchday, featuring 18 simultaneous matches that decided the fate of several teams. With the dust settled, the knockout stage is starting to take shape, with a mix of familiar faces and surprise contenders advancing.
Teams Through to the Last 16
Eight teams have secured direct qualification to the Champions League last 16:
- Liverpool
- Barcelona
- Arsenal
- Inter Milan
- Atlético Madrid
- Bayer Leverkusen
- Lille
- Aston Villa
These teams finished in the top eight of the league phase, bypassing the play-off round and advancing directly to the knockout stages.
Teams in the Play-off Round
Sixteen teams will battle it out in the play-off round for the remaining eight spots in the last 16:
Seeded:
- Atalanta
- Borussia Dortmund
- Real Madrid
- Bayern Munich
- AC Milan
- PSV Eindhoven
- Paris Saint-Germain
- Benfica
Unseeded:
- Monaco
- Brest
- Feyenoord
- Juventus
- Celtic
- Manchester City
- Sporting CP
- Club Brugge
These teams finished between 9th and 24th in the league phase and will now face a two-legged play-off tie to determine who progresses to the knockout stages.
Teams Eliminated
The following teams have been eliminated from the Champions League:
- RB Leipzig
- RB Salzburg
- Bologna
- Sparta Prague
- Girona
- Crvena Zvezda
- Sturm Graz
- Slovan Bratislava
- BSC Young Boys
- Dinamo Zagreb
- Shakhtar Donetsk
- Stuttgart
These teams finished outside the top 24 and will not participate in the knockout stages.
Play-off Draw
The draw for the Champions League play-off round will take place on Friday, 31 January at 12:00 CET at UEFA’s headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland. The first legs of the play-off ties will be played on 11-12 February, with the second legs taking place on 18-19 February.
