Wolves fans fume over Matt Doherty Spurs deal after Ben Chilwell fee confirmed

211

It’s fair to say that Wolves fans aren’t exactly happy about Matt Doherty potentially joining Tottenham.

Playing a major role in their Premier League success over the past two years, Jose Mourinho has identified the right-back as the man to help upgrade his Spurs

The head coach is a big fan of the Republic of Ireland international and that the Lilywhites are keen on making him their third summer signing.

Serge Aurier was Tottenham’s first-choice right-back last term but his performances were extremely mixed despite contributing often in the final third with eight assists to his name.

Keen to seal a move away from Tottenham Hotspur Stadium 12 months ago, the Ivorian has been linked with AC Milan once again and a deal may come to fruition this time.

Doherty would be a very good addition for the Lilywhites and a deal could be worth around £12million, not including add-ons.

The reported price has not gone down well with Wolves supporters given his excellent performances in the top flight over the past two years.

The fact that Ben Chilwell joined Chelsea in a £50million deal from Leicester City on Wednesday evening has left the majority of fans believing that the club should be asking for a lot more for Doherty.

Capable of playing as a right-back, right wing-back and right midfielder, Doherty can also play on the opoosite flank if needed.

Given Danny Rose is likely to depart Tottenham this summer as he is no longer part of Mourinho’s plans, the Wolves man’s versatility could prove key.

Doherty finished last campaign with a total of seven goals and five assists from his 50 games in all competitions.
