Araujo on Al-Ittihad’s Radar as Ramon Planes Makes Bold Claim

Former Barcelona official and current Al-Ittihad chief Ramon Planes has openly expressed his admiration for Ronald Araujo, calling the Uruguayan defender one of the best in the world.

Planes, who now works in the Saudi Pro League, told Marca that he wouldn’t hesitate to sign Araujo if the opportunity arose.

“I would sign him tomorrow. He’s one of the best center-backs in the world,” Planes said.

Araujo has been the subject of transfer speculation throughout the summer, with clubs like Juventus reportedly interested. However, a move has yet to materialize, and the defender currently looks set to remain at Barcelona.

Despite that, ongoing financial pressures at the Catalan club mean a late sale hasn’t been ruled out. Sporting director Deco has hinted that one of the team’s central defenders may need to be sold before the window closes, further fueling rumors around both Araujo and Andreas Christensen.

For now, Araujo remains an integral part of Barca’s squad — but the coming weeks could still bring surprises.
