Arteta Insists Arsenal Will “Keep Trying” Despite Widening Gap to Liverpool

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta remains defiant about his team’s Premier League title chances, despite a 0-0 draw against Nottingham Forest leaving them 13 points behind leaders Liverpool. The result, coupled with a defeat to West Ham last week, represents a significant setback for the Gunners, but Arteta insists his team will not give up.

Arsenal have now dropped five points in their last two matches, failing to capitalize on Liverpool’s recent draws against Everton and Aston Villa. The Gunners managed only one shot on target at the City Ground, highlighting their struggles in attack.

However, with 11 games remaining, including a trip to Anfield, and 33 points still available, Arteta maintained a determined outlook. “It was same a week ago, two weeks ago, three months ago,” Arteta said. “The only thing we can do is win our matches and see how many points we get.”

He acknowledged the disappointment of the dropped points: “We have dropped two points in this game and it is painful. It doesn’t feel good because we’re here to win. We showed unquestionable character in how much we wanted it and tried.”

Arteta also pointed to Arsenal ‘s struggles in attack. “We dominated the game. We tried in many different ways. We insisted but lacked that spark, that final pass to unlock a well organised team. We have to generate more shots on target.”

Despite failing to score in consecutive games, Arteta contrasted the performance against Forest with the previous defeat to West Ham, which he had described as making him “angry.” “Very different standard [to the West Ham defeat],” Arteta said. “We defended with energy, purpose, fight, willingness to make things happen. It wasn’t because we lacked that. We tried until the end but weren’t able to do it.”

Arteta’s comments suggest that while he recognizes the scale of the challenge, he is not prepared to concede the title, emphasizing his team’s continued effort and determination despite recent setbacks.
