Bayern Munich secured a dramatic last-gasp victory over Celtic, snatching a 1-0 win in the second leg of their Champions League play-off tie to progress to the last 16. Despite a valiant effort from Celtic, who led for much of the match, Bayern’s late goal from Alphonso Davies ensured a 3-2 aggregate victory for the German side.

Celtic started the match brightly and created several chances to take the lead. Nicolas Kuhn, Callum McGregor, and Daizen Maeda all came close to scoring in the first half, but Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer and the woodwork denied them.

Celtic eventually found the breakthrough in the 61st minute when Kuhn capitalized on a defensive error from Kim Min-jae to give the visitors the lead. The goal sparked wild celebrations among the Celtic fans and players, who sensed a famous victory.

Bayern responded with a late surge, pushing for an equalizer that would send them through. They finally found the breakthrough in the 94th minute when Davies bundled the ball home from close range after Schmeichel had saved Goretzka’s initial header.

Celtic’s Heartbreak

Celtic’s players were left devastated by the late goal, which denied them a historic victory. They had defended resolutely and created several chances, but ultimately their efforts were not enough to prevent Bayern from progressing.

Bayern, meanwhile, will be relieved to have avoided an upset. They struggled to cope with Celtic’s intensity and were fortunate to escape with a victory. Manager Vincent Kompany will be hoping that his team can learn from this experience and improve their performances in the knockout stages.

Bayern’s victory sees them progress to the last 16 of the Champions League, where they will face one of the teams that finished in the top eight of the league phase. Celtic, meanwhile, will turn their attention back to domestic matters, where they remain on course for a successful season.
