Bayern Munich took another significant step towards securing their 34th Bundesliga title with a comfortable 4-0 victory away at relegation-threatened Heidenheim on Saturday, April 19th.
The win moves Bayern to 72 points, establishing a nine-point lead over second-placed Bayer Leverkusen, who play St. Pauli on Sunday. With only four rounds remaining after this weekend, Bayern are closing in on retaining their crown.
Any doubts about the outcome were quickly extinguished as Bayern raced into a 3-0 lead within 36 minutes. Harry Kane opened the scoring in the 13th minute with a precise low shot from outside the area, netting his 60th goal in just his 60th Bundesliga appearance – the fastest player to reach that mark in the league’s history.
Konrad Laimer doubled the lead shortly after following a swift counter-attack, before Kingsley Coman made it three in the 36th minute, scoring on the rebound after Raphael Guerreiro’s initial shot was saved. Kane also missed a headed chance to extend the lead earlier in the half.
Joshua Kimmich added a fourth goal in the 56th minute, rifling a shot into the corner to complete the scoring. Heidenheim offered little resistance but did force a good save from Bayern goalkeeper Jonas Urbig just after the hour mark when he denied Sirlord Conteh.
The defeat leaves Heidenheim in the relegation play-off spot (16th place) with 22 points, seven points behind St. Pauli who occupy the last safe position ahead of their game on Sunday. Bayern Munich, meanwhile, can potentially clinch the title as early as next weekend when they host Mainz, depending on Leverkusen’s result against St. Pauli.
