Bournemouth Stun Man City in Historic First Victory

Antoine Semenyo and Evanlison scored as Bournemouth secured their first-ever win against Manchester City with a 2-1 victory at the Vitality Stadium.

The Cherries, buoyed by recent positive results against Aston Villa and Arsenal, started aggressively. Within two minutes, City goalkeeper Ederson was forced into a double save to deny Semenyo and Justin Kluivert.

Bournemouth’s high-pressing approach paid dividends in the ninth minute when Milos Kerkez’s cut-back found Semenyo, who converted to give the hosts the lead.

City struggled to respond in a frustrating first half, failing to register a single shot on target. The champions’ difficulties continued after the break as Bournemouth doubled their lead through Evanlison, who met Kerkez’s low cross to slot home.

The hosts could have extended their lead further when Adam Smith blazed over with the goal at his mercy after Marcus Tavernier’s shot had struck the post.

City finally managed their first shot on target in the 80th minute through a tame Erling Haaland volley. Josko Gvardiol’s header two minutes later gave them hope, but Bournemouth held firm for a historic victory.

The result sees City drop to second place after Liverpool’s comeback win against Brighton, while Bournemouth move up to eighth in the table.
