Club Brugge produced a stunning first-half performance to defeat Atalanta 3-1 in the second leg of their Champions League play-off tie and secure a place in the last 16. Despite a late rally from Atalanta, Club Brugge held on to claim a 5-2 aggregate victory and progress in the competition.

The Belgian side got off to a flying start, with Chemsdine Talbi scoring twice in the opening 30 minutes. His first goal came after just two minutes, slotting home from close range after a swift counter-attack. He then doubled their lead, finishing off a rebound after Christos Tzolis’ shot was saved.

Ferran Jutgla added a third goal just before half-time, rounding off a clinical counter-attack to give Club Brugge a commanding lead.

Atalanta responded in the second half, with substitute Ademola Lookman scoring just 34 seconds after coming on. However, their hopes of a comeback were dealt a blow when Lookman’s penalty was saved by Simon Mignolet.

Despite their efforts, Atalanta were unable to find a way past a resolute Club Brugge defense, and their frustration boiled over when captain Rafael Toloi was shown a red card late in the match.

Club Brugge goalkeeper Simon Mignolet played a crucial role in their victory, making several key saves to deny Atalanta. His performance earned him the Man of the Match award and highlighted his importance to the team.

Club Brugge’s victory sees them progress to the last 16 of the Champions League, where they will face either Aston Villa or Lille. The draw for the next round will take place on Friday.

Atalanta, meanwhile, will be disappointed to have been eliminated from the Champions League. Despite their strong domestic form, they were unable to replicate that in Europe and will now turn their attention back to Serie A.
