Ousmane Dembélé proved to be the hero for Paris Saint-Germain as his stoppage-time goal secured a 1-0 victory over AS Monaco in the French Super Cup. The Ligue 1 champions lifted the trophy for the third consecutive season, further cementing their dominance in French football.

PSG, who have won the Super Cup 11 times in the last 12 years, faced Monaco after claiming both the league title and the French Cup last season. The match, held at Doha’s Stadium 974, was a lively affair, with PSG creating a plethora of chances.

Despite dominating possession and registering 27 shots, PSG struggled to break the deadlock until Dembélé’s late intervention. The French forward netted the winner two minutes into injury time, finishing coolly after being set up by Fabián Ruiz.

PSG had several opportunities to take the lead earlier in the match. Summer signing Désiré Doué struck the bar in the ninth minute, while Lee Kang-In and Dembélé both tested Monaco goalkeeper Philipp Köhn.

Monaco also had their moments, with Maghnes Akliouche and Takumi Minamino forcing saves from Gianluigi Donnarumma, who returned to the PSG lineup after recovering from a facial injury.
The goalless first half was a rarity in the French Super Cup, marking the first time since 2010 that neither team had scored before the break.

PSG’s victory extends their impressive record in the competition, having also beaten Nantes and Toulouse in the previous two editions. Monaco, who last won the trophy in 2000, were runners-up in both 2017 and 2018, losing to PSG on both occasions.

Both teams now turn their attention back to Ligue 1. PSG will host St Etienne next Sunday, while Monaco visit Nantes on Friday.
