Guardiola Reportedly Keen on Ilkay Gundogan’s Return to City
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is reportedly eager to bring Ilkay Gundogan back to the club from Barcelona, just a year after the midfielder’s departure. City fans are eagerly waiting for Gundogan’s Return to City.
Gundogan, who played a pivotal role in City’s recent successes, including their historic treble last season, is being linked with a return to the Etihad as Barcelona faces financial challenges.
The Catalan giants need to make room in their wage bill to register new signing Dani Olmo, and Gundogan, one of the highest earners at the club, could be on his way out.
The 33-year-old German midfielder has already reached out to City regarding a potential move, according to sources close to the situation. Renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has reported that Guardiola has given the green light for Gundogan’s return, with talks between the club and the player’s representatives already underway.
“Understand Pep Guardiola has already approved Ilkay Gündogan’s return to Manchester City. Pep wants Gündo back as talks are now taking place with his camp, first contact made yesterday,” Romano tweeted. He added that the decision now rests with Gundogan, who is also weighing up offers from clubs in Saudi Arabia and Qatar.
The possibility of Gundogan’s return to Manchester City on a free transfer has been floated, though there are also whispers of a potential swap deal involving City defender Joao Cancelo. Cancelo, who spent part of last season on loan at Bayern Munich, is another player linked with Barcelona this summer.
Gundogan’s return would undoubtedly be welcomed by City fans, given his leadership and clutch performances in crucial moments. The midfielder was instrumental in City’s FA Cup and Premier League triumphs last season, scoring key goals that helped the club secure both titles.
As the transfer window draws to a close, all eyes will be on whether Gundogan’s Return to City will happen or will he explores other lucrative offers abroad.
