Haaland Outpaces Messi, Mbappe and Ronaldo to Reach 300th goal
Manchester City striker Erling Haaland scored his 300th top-level career goal for club and country during his team’s 5-2 victory over Juventus in the FIFA Club World Cup on Thursday.
The 24-year-old Norwegian reached the remarkable milestone at a significantly faster pace than other modern football superstars. Haaland achieved the 300-goal mark in just his 370th professional game, far fewer than it took Lionel Messi (418 games), Kylian Mbappé (409 games), and Cristiano Ronaldo (554 games).
Introduced as a halftime substitute in the decisive Group G clash, Haaland needed only seven minutes to make his mark. He bundled the ball into the net from close range with just his third touch of the game, putting Manchester City 3-1 ahead. The goal was his 123rd in 145 appearances for the Premier League club.
“All I can say is congratulations,” Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola said after the match. “He has scored 300 goals at 24 years old. I admire a lot the strikers. I am so happy for Erling, his goal and being involved in short spaces. So, so good.”
Haaland’s goal helped secure a comfortable victory for City, ensuring they finished top of their group with a perfect record. They will now face the runner-up from Group H in the round of 16 in Orlando on Monday.
The milestone goal adds another significant achievement to Haaland’s prolific career, which has included successful spells at Molde, RB Salzburg, and Borussia Dortmund before his move to Manchester.
