The German manager discussed Lamine Yamal’s choice to display a Palestine flag during the club’s trophy celebrations. Flick addressed the situation during a press conference before Barcelona’s upcoming match against Alaves. “These are things that I don’t normally like,” the manager told reporters on Tuesday. He confirmed he has spoken privately with the 18-year-old about the incident. “I have told him that if he wants to do it is his decision, he’s 18 years old.”
A conversation took place where the coach reminded the youngster of his professional responsibilities. “We are dedicated to playing football and we have to take into account what people expect from us.” Despite the controversy, the manager praised the emotional connection between the team and the supporters. He noted how moving it was to see people crying with emotion on the streets.
“This for me is the most important thing, the first thing,” Flick added. Pride was evident as he praised his squad for overcoming numerous injuries throughout a fantastic season. Barcelona currently hold the record for the fewest goals conceded this term. “Nobody would have imagined it,” the German manager said regarding their defensive success.
Flick now wants his side to reach a historic 100-point total in La Liga. He believes the squad is strong enough to achieve this milestone. “The goal now is to reach 100 points,” the coach insisted. “To do that we have to win the three remaining matches and play well.”
