Isak’s Double Fires Newcastle to top four
Alexander Isak continued his remarkable goalscoring run, netting a brace as Newcastle United cruised to a 3-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers at St James’ Park. The Swedish striker has now scored in eight consecutive Premier League matches, joining an exclusive group of players to achieve that feat.
Isak’s double, along with a goal from Anthony Gordon, propelled Newcastle to their ninth consecutive win in all competitions and sixth straight victory in the Premier League. The Magpies now occupy fourth place in the table, with their Champions League ambitions firmly intact.
Wolves, meanwhile, remain in the relegation zone, with their defensive frailties once again exposed. Despite creating some promising opportunities and hitting the woodwork twice, they were unable to contain Isak and his Newcastle teammates.
Isak’s Impressive Form
Isak’s first goal came in the 34th minute, as he collected the ball in midfield, drove towards the Wolves penalty area, and fired a low shot into the net. He then doubled Newcastle’s lead just before the hour mark, finishing clinically after being set up by Bruno Guimarães.
“I feel amazing,” Isak said after the match. “Individually I feel free and confident but looking at the team, we are doing so well as well, defending and with threats going forward.”
Wolves’ Struggles Continue
Wolves manager Vitor Pereira lamented his team’s missed chances and defensive lapses.
“This is a difficult team to play at home,” Pereira said. “We created a lot of chances to score, the difference was they (Newcastle) scored in the key moments of the game and we missed the goals.”
Newcastle’s Rise
Newcastle’s impressive run of form has seen them emerge as genuine contenders for a top-four finish. Their attacking prowess, spearheaded by Isak, has been a key factor in their recent success. With their confidence high, they will be looking to continue their winning streak in the upcoming matches.
