Reigning Premier League champions Liverpool have completed the signing of Hungary international left-back Milos Kerkez from AFC Bournemouth, the club announced on Thursday.

The 21-year-old joins the Anfield club on a five-year contract, with the transfer fee reported to be £40 million ($54.9 million).

Kerkez becomes Liverpool’s third major signing of the summer transfer window, following the high-profile arrivals of attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz and wing-back Jeremie Frimpong, both from German side Bayer Leverkusen.

“It’s a real honour for me, a privilege to come to play for one of the biggest clubs in the world, the biggest club in England. I’m just really, really happy and excited,” Kerkez said in a statement. “I’ll go home and in my hometown enjoy a few days, and then I can’t really wait to come back and put the training kit on and start to train and prepare for the season.”

The highly-rated defender joins Liverpool after two impressive seasons at Bournemouth, where he made 74 appearances. Born in Serbia, Kerkez has earned 23 caps for the Hungarian national team since making his debut against Germany in 2022.

His signing will provide competition and depth in Liverpool’s defensive ranks as they prepare to defend their Premier League title under manager Arne Slot.
