Paris Saint-Germain stand on the verge of securing their fifth consecutive Ligue 1 title and are simultaneously pursuing a potentially historic unbeaten league season. Luis Enrique ‘s side need just one point from their home match against 14th-placed Angers on Saturday, April 5th, to be crowned champions with six matches remaining.

Currently holding a commanding 21-point lead over second-placed AS Monaco, PSG’s relentless march towards another domestic title seems inevitable. Winning the league with six games to spare would be the third-earliest coronation in Ligue 1 history, behind PSG’s own 2016 triumph (8 games left) and Lyon’s 2007 win (6 games left). This would mark PSG’s 12th league title in the past 14 seasons, achieved this season despite the departures of superstars Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappé, and Neymar in recent years.

Beyond the imminent title celebration, significant attention is focused on PSG’s unbeaten record. After 27 league games, they remain undefeated.1 Manager Luis Enrique acknowledged on Friday, April 4th, that maintaining this record is now a firm goal.

“I wasn’t interested in (records) until now, but of course, we want to go unbeaten throughout the season,” Enrique told reporters. “We don’t just want to be champions, but we want to be competitive and perform well. We want to improve our records and statistics.”

Achieving an ‘invincible’ season would make PSG the first French team ever to do so and place them among an elite group of European clubs, including Bayer Leverkusen (2024), Juventus (2012), and Arsenal (2004). Enrique stressed the need for continuous improvement: “We can always improve… It’s a collective sport so it’s very hard to reach the highest level.”

While focused on Angers, Enrique also looked ahead to their upcoming Champions League quarter-final against Aston Villa, praising manager Unai Emery. “I know about Unai Emery and his ability… He’s a top coach,” Enrique said. “We know what sort of opponents we will be facing… I think they are a more complete team this season.”

PSG’s ambitions extend further, with a potential quadruple still possible. They have already won the French Super Cup, reached the Coupe de France final, and are France’s sole representative in this summer’s expanded FIFA Club World Cup. “We are the only French representative in the competition, so we are representing France and that is an extra source of motivation for us,” Enrique stated, adding his desire for PSG to be “an outstanding team on the global stage,” despite acknowledging past European setbacks.

First, however, they must secure the Ligue 1 title, a task they can complete against Angers on Saturday.
