Massimiliano Allegri Reappointed as AC Milan Head Coach
AC Milan have reappointed Massimiliano Allegri as their head coach, the Serie A club announced on Friday, May 30, 2025. The 57-year-old Italian tactician returns for a second spell, having previously managed the Rossoneri from June 2010 to January 2014.
Allegri succeeds Sergio Conceicao, who was dismissed on Thursday after a brief six-month tenure. In a statement, AC Milan said: “The club extends a warm welcome and best wishes to Massimiliano and his staff.”
The reappointment comes after a challenging 2024-25 season for Milan, which saw them finish in a disappointing eighth position in Serie A and lose the Coppa Italia final to Bologna. As a result, the seven-time European champions will not participate in European competition next season. The club’s most recent Serie A title came in the 2021-22 season under Stefano Pioli.
During his first stint at San Siro, Allegri led AC Milan to the Scudetto in his debut season (2010-11), which was the club’s first league championship since 2004. He was dismissed in January 2014.
Following his initial departure from Milan, Allegri enjoyed a highly successful period with Juventus between 2014 and 2019, securing five consecutive Serie A titles. Under his guidance, Juventus also reached the UEFA Champions League final twice, though they were defeated on both occasions. He left the Turin club by mutual consent in 2019.
After a two-year hiatus from management, Allegri returned to Juventus in 2021 for a second spell, which concluded in May 2024 and was less trophy-laden than his first. Throughout his extensive managerial career, Allegri has also coached Aglianese, SPAL, Grosseto, Sassuolo, and Cagliari.
AC Milan will be looking to Allegri’s proven track record and experience to navigate a rebuilding phase and restore the club to a competitive position both domestically and in Europe.
