Mumbai City FC spoiled NorthEast United’s debut in their new home stadium with a 2-0 win in the Indian Super League (ISL). Goals from Bipin Singh and Lallianzuala Chhangte secured the victory for the Islanders, who moved up to fourth place in the table.

NorthEast United started the match brightly, with top scorer Alaaeddine Ajaraie coming close to opening the scoring on several occasions. However, Mumbai City took the lead just before half-time when Bipin Singh converted a Brandon Fernandes cross.

The second half saw Mumbai City control the game, with Chhangte adding a second goal in stoppage time to seal the win. The result leaves NorthEast United in fifth place, while Mumbai City climb to fourth.

NorthEast United will be disappointed to have lost their first match in their new home stadium. They created several chances, particularly in the first half, but were unable to convert them. Ajaraie’s near miss and Nestor Albiach’s close-range effort were particularly frustrating for the home side.

Mumbai City, on the other hand, were clinical in front of goal. Bipin Singh’s well-taken goal and Chhangte’s late strike ensured they made the most of their opportunities.

This victory boosts Mumbai City’s hopes of securing a playoff spot, while NorthEast United’s defeat leaves them with work to do to maintain their challenge for a top-four finish.
