Newcastle United earned a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Saturday.

Callum Wilson’s acrobatic strike cancelled out Christian Benteke’s opener for the home side who dominated the visitors throughout the match.

Palace rued missed chances despite dominating nearly 75% of possession.

Benteke broke the deadlock in the 56th minute to put Palace in front before Wilson found the equalizer 10 minutes later with an overhead kick before Benteke had his thumping header disallowed by VAR for a foul in the build-up.

Benteke who scored against Arsenal on Monday latched onto an inviting cross from Tyrick Mitchell and powered through the Newcastle defence to head past goalkeeper Karl Darlow.

Palace were then punished for failing to clear a corner, with Newcastle defender Emil Krafth heading the ball towards Wilson who produced an unstoppable bicycle kick.

Newcastle, under their new owners failed to win but showed great character to rescue a point. The Magpies who remain without a league win this season, remain second-bottom on four points, while Palace’s sixth draw leaves them in 15th place on nine points from nine games.
