RB Leipzig Sack Head Coach Marco Rose
RB Leipzig have dismissed head coach Marco Rose following a disappointing Bundesliga campaign, appointing Zsolt Löw as interim manager until the end of the season, the club announced on Sunday, March 30th. The decision comes after Leipzig’s defeat to Borussia Mönchengladbach on Saturday left them sixth in the league standings.
Rose, 48, who took charge in late 2022 and guided Leipzig to the German Cup title last season and the German Super Cup in 2023, has been relieved of his duties with immediate effect, along with his coaching staff. Leipzig finished fourth last season but currently sit sixth, outside the Champions League qualification spots.
Löw, 45, steps into the role with considerable experience as an assistant coach, notably under Thomas Tuchel at Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea, and Bayern Munich. The former Hungarian international defender also has previous ties to Leipzig, having served as an assistant under Ralph Hasenhüttl and Ralf Rangnick.
Despite the team’s league struggles, Leipzig remain in contention for the German Cup and face VfB Stuttgart in the semi-finals on Wednesday.
“We’ve still got the chance to achieve our goals in two competitions,” Löw said in a club statement. “We’ll do everything we can to reach the DFB Pokal final in Berlin and get the most out of the remaining Bundesliga matches.”
Löw’s immediate task will be to prepare the team for the crucial cup semi-final and attempt to salvage Leipzig’s Bundesliga season in the remaining games.
