Real Madrid delivered a dominant performance to secure a resounding 5-1 victory over Red Bull Salzburg in the Champions League, reviving their hopes of defending their title. A brace from Rodrygo, along with goals from Kylian Mbappé and Vinícius Júnior (2), ensured a comfortable win for Carlo Ancelotti’s side.

After a shaky start to their Champions League campaign, with three defeats in their opening six games, Real Madrid rediscovered their form against a struggling Salzburg side. Rodrygo opened the scoring with a well-taken volley before adding a second with a superb strike from the edge of the box.

Mbappé then capitalized on a goalkeeping error to extend Real Madrid’s lead before Vinícius Júnior added two more goals to complete the rout. Salzburg’s only consolation came from a late Mads Bidstrup volley.

Real Madrid’s Resurgence

This victory guarantees Real Madrid at least a play-off spot in the Champions League, and they are now just one point off the automatic qualification places with one group game remaining. The win also provides a much-needed boost for Ancelotti, who has been under pressure following a series of disappointing results this season.

Salzburg, who have now lost six of their seven Champions League group stage matches, are out of the competition. They struggled to contain Real Madrid’s attacking prowess and were punished for their defensive frailties.

Mbappé and Rodrygo were instrumental in Real Madrid’s victory. Mbappé’s brace took him to 75 Champions League goal involvements, while Rodrygo continued his impressive form with two well-taken goals.

Real Madrid will now travel to Brest for their final group game, where they will be looking to secure a top-eight finish and automatic qualification for the knockout stages. With their confidence restored, they will be confident of defending their Champions League crown.
