Sevilla Edge Juventus in Thriller to Reach Europa Final

Sevilla, the Europa League kings, fought back to reach yet another final on Thursday, defeating Juventus 2-1 in extra time to secure a 3-2 aggregate victory.

The Spaniards will face AS Roma in the final in Budapest on May 31, after Jose Mourinho’s side drew 0-0 at Bayer Leverkusen to secure a 1-0 aggregate victory in their semifinal.

Juventus, who were held to a 1-1 draw by Sevilla in the first leg, looked on course to reach the final when Dusan Vlahovic scored in the 65th minute. However, Suso equalized six minutes later and Erik Lamela scored the winner in extra time.

It was a cathartic night for Sevilla, who have won the Europa League six times and are looking to add to their record. The win was also a boost for the club, who are struggling in La Liga and have changed managers twice this season.

Juve goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny was the best player on the field in the first half, making several saves. However, he was beaten by Vlahovic and Suso, and Lamela scored the winner in extra time.

Sevilla’s only downside was that left back Marcos Acuna was sent off in extra time for time wasting. He will miss the final in Budapest.
