Inter Miami’s Concacaf Champions Cup first-leg match against Sporting Kansas City has been postponed by 24 hours due to a winter snowstorm in Kansas City. The match, originally scheduled for February 18th, will now be played on February 19th at 8 p.m. ET.

The decision to postpone the match was made to prioritize player and fan safety, with Concacaf coordinating with both clubs and local authorities. The snowstorm is expected to bring significant snowfall to Kansas City, potentially causing travel disruptions and hazardous conditions.

Inter Miami head coach Javier Mascherano confirmed that the decision to postpone the match was made in consultation with both teams, who acknowledged the potential impact of the snowstorm on the city and the match itself.

“It’s not just a matter of the game, if the snow falls like they say is going to fall, we believe that the city is going to completely collapse, so people won’t be able to go to the field, the accesses may be closed,” Mascherano said. “Many times you only think about the game itself and not everything that surrounds it.”

Despite the postponement and the potential for challenging conditions, Mascherano confirmed that Lionel Messi will be available for the match. He also emphasized that Inter Miami’s game plan will not change, regardless of the weather.

“Messi’s availability is 100% and I can guarantee that Leo will play,” Mascherano said. “The reality is that the lineup and the plan are not going to change much, that is, the reality is that we will try to be protagonists and try to follow the same line that we have shown throughout the preseason.”

Inter Miami’s 2025 campaign will now officially kick off on Wednesday night against Sporting Kansas City. Their MLS season opener against New York City FC, scheduled for Saturday in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, will go ahead as planned. Champions cup
