Tottenham Appoint Thomas Frank as New Head Coach

Tottenham Hotspur have appointed Brentford’s Thomas Frank as their new head coach on a contract that runs until 2028, the Premier League club announced on Friday, June 13, 2025.

The 51-year-old Dane replaces Ange Postecoglou, who was sacked earlier this month, just 16 days after guiding Spurs to victory in the UEFA Europa League final. Despite that triumph, which ended the club’s 17-year wait for a major trophy and secured Champions League football for next season, Postecoglou paid the price for a dismal domestic campaign that saw Tottenham finish 17th with 22 defeats.

Frank’s appointment comes after a successful seven-year tenure at Brentford, where he guided the club from the Championship to the Premier League in 2021 and established them as a competitive top-flight side. He is Tottenham’s fifth permanent manager since Mauricio Pochettino was dismissed in 2019.

“In Thomas we are appointing one of the most progressive and innovative head coaches within the game,” Tottenham said in a statement. “He has a proven track record in player and squad development and we look forward to him leading the team as we prepare for the season ahead.”

Frank will be joined at Tottenham by several members of his Brentford backroom staff, including assistant coach Justin Cochrane, head of performance Chris Haslam, and analyst Joe Newton. Andreas Georgson will also arrive from Manchester United as another assistant coach.

In a statement, Brentford’s director of football, Phil Giles, paid tribute to their departing manager: “From the moment he replaced Dean Smith, he understood what we were trying to build and his wisdom, coaching ability and emotional intelligence have helped transform the club… We will never forget Thomas, but now it is time to thank him and take the next steps in our journey with a new leader who we believe can be just as successful and influential.”

Shortly after Frank’s appointment was confirmed, Spurs captain Cristian Romero posted a message to his former boss, Postecoglou, thanking him for “two incredible seasons” and for paving the way “despite the many obstacles that always existed and always will exist,” a comment some supporters have interpreted as a critique of the club’s leadership.

Frank now faces the challenge of uniting the dressing room and building on the club’s European success while drastically improving their Premier League form.
