Arsenal in Talks with Valencia for Defender Cristhian Mosquera
Arsenal are in talks with Spanish club Valencia to sign highly-rated defender Cristhian Mosquera as they look to bolster their defensive options this summer.
The 20-year-old Spaniard, who can play at both centre-back and right-back, has emerged as a favoured target for the North London club. Mosquera, a Spain Under-21 international, has made 90 appearances for Valencia and was a mainstay in their team last season, playing the full 90 minutes in 37 of their 38 La Liga matches.
Arsenal have also shown interest in Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi, but the England international is reportedly hesitant about a move where first-team opportunities might be limited behind established centre-backs William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhães.
The pursuit of Mosquera comes during a busy period of transfer and contract activity for the Gunners. The club is reportedly on the verge of completing a move for Brentford midfielder Christian Norgaard, with a fee of around £15 million said to be agreed upon ahead of a medical for the Denmark international. The signing of goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea is also expected to be completed imminently.
These potential new arrivals follow a series of key contract renewals at the Emirates Stadium. On Thursday, 18-year-old full-back Myles Lewis-Skelly, who broke into the first team last season and made 39 appearances, signed a new five-year deal. Earlier this month, Brazilian defender Gabriel Magalhães also committed his long-term future to the club with a new contract.
