Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich, according to Sky in Germany. Kimmich, whose contract expires this summer, is now eligible to negotiate with clubs outside of Germany.

While Arsenal have declined to comment on reports suggesting they have held talks with Kimmich’s representatives, discussions between the player and Bayern Munich regarding a new contract are ongoing.

Midfield is understood to be a priority area for Arsenal in the upcoming transfer window. The contracts of both Thomas Partey and Jorginho expire this summer. The club is also reportedly close to finalizing a deal for Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi. While the acquisition of another midfielder, in addition to Zubimendi, is a possibility, Arsenal are also believed to be evaluating their existing options.

Joshua Kimmich, 30, has been a key figure for Bayern Munich over the past decade, making 435 appearances and scoring 43 goals. He played a crucial role in Bayern’s 2019/20 Champions League victory and has won eight Bundesliga titles. His versatility is a significant asset; he primarily operates as a central midfielder but is equally adept at right-back, a position he has occupied at times under Bayern coach Vincent Kompany this season. Kimmich is also a regular for the German national team, with 97 caps and seven goals.

The potential availability of Kimmich on a free transfer has alerted several clubs, with Arsenal seemingly among the frontrunners. The situation adds another layer of intrigue to the upcoming transfer window.
