FC Barcelona winger Raphinha was named the 2024-25 LaLiga Player of the Season on Friday, recognizing his pivotal role in the club’s domestic treble-winning campaign. His 17-year-old teammate, Lamine Yamal, collected the award for the league’s Best Under-23 Player.

Raphinha, 28, enjoyed a stellar season under head coach Hansi Flick, contributing significantly to Barcelona’s triumphs in LaLiga, the Copa del Rey, and the Spanish Super Cup. The Brazil international’s impressive statistics included 18 goals and 11 assists in league play, making him the only player in Spain’s top flight to reach double figures in both categories. Across all competitions, he tallied 34 goals and 25 assists in 57 appearances.

“It’s something very special, and feeling part of the Barca family for another year makes me feel very happy,” said Raphinha, who recently signed a contract extension keeping him at the club until 2028. “I’ve told my family before that my dream is to be here until the end of my career.”

The award marks a remarkable turnaround for the winger, who joined from Leeds United in 2022. After two modest seasons, he had been considered a potential transfer candidate before his explosive form this year cemented his status as a key player and saw him named one of the club’s five captains.

Lamine Yamal was also recognized for his exceptional breakout season. The winger confirmed his standing as one of world football’s most exciting young talents, contributing nine league goals and a league-high 13 assists. He also found the net five times in the UEFA Champions League.

Raphinha’s individual award came after a season where his decisive goals were crucial for Barcelona, including 13 in their run to the Champions League semi-finals, where they were dramatically eliminated by Inter Milan in extra time.
