Cristiano Ronaldo has officially entered the world of football club ownership by acquiring a 25% stake in UD Almería. The 41-year-old Al-Nassr forward finalised the deal through his newly established firm, CR7 Sports Investments. This move marks a significant professional return to Spain for the former Real Madrid talisman. Consequently, Ronaldo now partners with a Saudi Arabian investment consortium led by Mohammed Al-Khereiji.

The Portuguese international expressed his excitement regarding the next phase of the club’s growth in a formal statement. He highlighted his long-held ambition to contribute to the sport beyond his legendary playing career. While the parties have not disclosed specific financial details, the impact of the deal is already massive. Almería currently sit third in the Segunda División, trailing leaders Real Racing by only two points.

President Al-Khereiji praised the veteran striker, citing his unparalleled knowledge of the Spanish football pyramid. Crucially, the ownership group believes Ronaldo’s expertise will accelerate the development of the club’s first team and academy. This strategic partnership follows the acquisition of the club from Turki Al-Sheikh by the SMC Group last year. Meanwhile, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner continues to dominate the global sporting rich list.

Building a Global Empire Beyond the Pitch

This latest venture represents the culmination of a decade-long transition into the world of high-level business. Ronaldo has methodically built a diverse portfolio to sustain his relevance once his playing days eventually conclude. His interests now span luxury hotels, hair-transplant clinics, and a successful recovery products company. According to 2025 figures, his non-football interests alone generated over £50m in annual revenue.

The forward previously hinted at his ownership aspirations during the Dubai Globe Soccer Awards in late 2024. He suggested that he possessed the necessary insight to fix structural flaws found in many European giants. By joining Almería, he gains a platform to implement these strategies in a familiar domestic environment. Supporters hope his winning mentality will propel the side back into the top flight of Spanish football.

Ronaldo’s discipline on the pitch has clearly translated into his approach to corporate strategy and investment. He has successfully launched fitness centres across the Iberian Peninsula alongside his various lifestyle and fashion brands. Nevertheless, his primary focus remains on helping Almería secure promotion during the final 15 games of the season. The footballing world will watch closely as one of its greatest figures begins this new chapter.
