Tonight, football fans across the globe will be glued to their screens for the much-anticipated Champions League draw. This season brings several new and exciting changes to the format, which will undoubtedly add a fresh dynamic to Europe’s most prestigious club competition.

Key Details of the Draw

– 36 Teams, One Ranking: All 36 teams will be ranked together. The top 8 clubs in this ranking will directly qualify for the Round of 16, while those ranked from 9th to 24th will enter the Play-Offs. Unfortunately, clubs ranked from 25th to 36th will be eliminated from the competition.

– 4 Pots, 9 Clubs Each: The draw will feature 4 pots, with 9 clubs in each pot. Each club will be required to draw 2 teams from each pot, resulting in every club playing a total of 8 games—4 at home and 4 away.

New Draw Process

This year’s draw introduces an innovative approach:
– An ex-footballer will still be drawing a team from a ball as tradition, but this time, a computer will decide the opponents for each team.
– The computer will also determine which 4 games will be played at home and which 4 will be away, starting with Pot 1 and continuing until every club knows their 8 opponents.

No Champions League Awards This Year

Unlike previous years, there will be no Champions League awards presented during the draw. This change comes as UEFA has joined the organisation of the Ballon d’Or and decided to erase their own awards, marking the first time in 26 years that no individual accolades will be handed out during the event.

Get ready for an exciting night as the new Champions League format unfolds, promising fresh challenges and fierce competition!
