Man United to Face Chelsea in Women’s FA Cup Final Repeat
Defending champions Manchester United booked their place in the Women’s FA Cup final with a 2-0 victory over rivals Manchester City on Sunday, April 13th, setting up a tantalizing final clash against Chelsea. The final will be a repeat of the 2023 showpiece, which Chelsea won 1-0.
Playing at City’s Joie Stadium, United secured their third consecutive FA Cup final appearance thanks to two first-half goals. Norway international Celine Bizet gave the visitors the lead in the sixth minute, latching onto a fine through ball from Ella Toone and finishing expertly. Grace Clinton doubled the advantage in the 22nd minute, heading home powerfully from a Gabby George corner.
United’s victory followed Chelsea’s dramatic 2-1 semi-final win over Liverpool on Saturday, secured by Aggie Beever-Jones’ stoppage-time winner, which kept Chelsea’s domestic treble hopes alive.
The Women’s FA Cup final is scheduled to take place at Wembley Stadium on Sunday, May 18th. While Chelsea won the encounter between the two sides in the 2023 final thanks to a Sam Kerr goal, Manchester United enter this year’s final as the holders, having defeated Tottenham Hotspur 4-0 in the 2024 final to lift the trophy for the first time.
