The Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 season is set to commence on September 13, marking the 11th edition of India’s premier football competition.

This season is particularly significant as it will feature 13 teams, the most in the league’s history, with Mohammedan SC earning promotion from the I-League.

The Kolkata-based club becomes the second team, after Punjab FC, to be promoted under the All India Football Federation’s (AIFF) roadmap for Indian football, which aims to create a seamless pathway between the I-League and the ISL.

Mohammedan SC secured their place in the ISL by winning the I-League last season, following a dominant campaign that saw them overcome stiff competition.

As they join the top flight, they will be competing for two major honors: the ISL Shield, awarded to the team that finishes at the top of the league table, and the ISL Cup, given to the winner of the playoffs.

Defending ISL Shield champions Mohun Bagan Super Giant will be eager to retain their title after a stellar performance last season, where they topped the league with 48 points.

However, their ambitions of a double were thwarted when Mumbai City FC defeated them 3-1 in the ISL Cup final, claiming their second  Indian Super League (ISL) Cup title at the Salt Lake Stadium.

Mumbai City FC, known for their attacking style of play, will be looking to build on their success from last season.

The Islanders, led by a mix of experienced internationals and promising Indian talents, will aim to defend their ISL Cup title while also challenging for the Shield.

Meanwhile, Kerala Blasters FC, one of the most popular clubs in the league with a passionate fan base, will be eager to break their title drought.

The Blasters, who have reached the ISL final three times but are yet to lift the trophy, will be looking to build a strong squad capable of competing at the highest level.

With the support of the Manjappada, their loyal fan group, Kerala Blasters will aim to make a deep run in both the league and playoffs.

Chennaiyin FC, two-time ISL champions, will also be in the mix as they look to reclaim their past glory.

After a couple of challenging seasons, the Marina Machans are likely to undergo significant squad changes to strengthen their chances of returning to the top.

Their management has been active in the transfer market, bringing in new faces to rejuvenate the squad.

Bengaluru FC, another powerhouse in Indian football, will enter the season with high expectations.

Known for their consistency, the Blues have always been a formidable force in the ISL and will be aiming for their second ISL title.

With a blend of experienced players and emerging stars, Bengaluru FC will be a team to watch.

The upcoming ISL season promises to be one of the most competitive yet, with several clubs bolstering their squads in pursuit of glory.

The fixtures and full schedule for the 2024-25 season are yet to be announced, but the excitement among fans is already palpable as the teams prepare for what is sure to be an action-packed season of Indian football.
