Leverkusen Thrash Frankfurt to Cement Second Place
Bayer Leverkusen produced a devastating first-half attacking display to secure a 4-1 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga on Saturday, consolidating their hold on second place. Leverkusen scored three goals in a seven-minute span to effectively decide the match before halftime.
The victory moves Leverkusen to 53 points, maintaining an 11-point gap to third-placed Frankfurt. Bayern Munich remain comfortably top of the table with 61 points.
Leverkusen’s breakthrough came in the 26th minute. Nathan Tella, making a well-timed run behind the Frankfurt defense, received a pass, took a controlling touch, and then drove a low shot across goal into the bottom left corner.
Just three minutes later, Nordi Mukiele doubled Leverkusen’s advantage, finishing from close range after a period of sustained pressure. The scoring spree concluded in the 33rd minute when Patrik Schick calmly slotted home from inside the box after being played in by a pass from the byline.
However, a lapse in concentration from Leverkusen allowed Frankfurt to reduce the deficit seven minutes before the break. Hugo Ekitike intercepted a misplaced back-pass, rounded goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky, and scored into an empty net.
Leverkusen reasserted their dominance in the second half. Aleix García sealed the victory in the 62nd minute with a low, long-range strike that found the far bottom corner following a clearance.
The match showcased Leverkusen’s attacking firepower and their ability to exploit defensive vulnerabilities. While a momentary lapse allowed Frankfurt a consolation goal, Leverkusen’s overall performance underlined their credentials as the closest challengers to Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga title race.
