Man City captain Walker completes AC Milan loan move
Manchester City captain Kyle Walker has joined AC Milan on loan for the remainder of the season. The 34-year-old England defender completed a medical with the Italian giants on Thursday and could make his debut against Parma on Sunday.
The loan deal includes an option for Milan to purchase Walker permanently at the end of the season. He joins a growing contingent of English players at the San Siro, including Fikayo Tomori, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, and Tammy Abraham.
Walker, who joined City from Tottenham in 2017 for £50 million, made 319 appearances for the club and won 17 trophies, including six Premier League titles. He was a key member of City’s treble-winning side in the 2022-23 season.
Emotional Farewell
Walker expressed his gratitude to Manchester City in an emotional message on Instagram, describing his time at the club as a “dream come true.”
“A huge thank you to so many people, the coaching staff, the kit men, and all the backroom staff who work tirelessly behind the scenes,” Walker wrote. “You make every day enjoyable and provide the platform for us to perform at our best.”
He also thanked his teammates and manager, Pep Guardiola, for their support and guidance during his time at the Etihad Stadium.
Walker’s departure comes after he informed Guardiola of his desire to leave the club following City’s match against West Ham on January 4th. Guardiola acknowledged Walker’s contributions to the club and wished him well for the future.
“Everyone at Manchester City wishes Kyle the very best of luck for the rest of the season,” a statement on the club’s website read.
Walker’s move to Milan coincides with City’s signing of Egyptian forward Omar Marmoush from Frankfurt for £59 million.
