Manchester United Agree £74m Deal for Leipzig Striker Benjamin Šeško

Manchester United have reached an agreement with RB Leipzig to sign Slovenia international striker Benjamin Šeško in a deal worth up to £73.7 million.

The 22-year-old is scheduled to travel to Manchester to complete a medical on Friday before finalizing his move to Old Trafford. The deal includes a guaranteed payment of £66.3 million, with the remainder structured as performance-related add-ons.

Šeško’s signing marks the latest step in a major attacking overhaul at United this summer, with the club having already spent a combined £130 million on forwards Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo. The club is actively seeking to offload other attackers, including Rasmus Højlund and Alejandro Garnacho, to reshape its forward line.

The club’s aggressive spending has reportedly been enabled by structuring payments for new arrivals over several years and by offloading Marcus Rashford’s substantial salary in a loan move to Barcelona.

Šeško arrives with a formidable reputation as one of Europe’s top young strikers. Since moving to Germany, he has scored 39 goals in 87 appearances, making him the leading scorer currently aged under 23 across Europe’s top five leagues, ahead of players like Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham and new Liverpool signing Florian Wirtz.

Praised for his combination of pace, strength, and clinical finishing, Šeško has drawn comparisons to Manchester City’s Erling Haaland, with whom he shares a former club in RB Salzburg.

The move is a significant blow for Premier League rivals Newcastle United, who also held a strong interest in the player and have reportedly missed out on other forward targets this transfer window.
