A dramatic stoppage-time winner from substitute Dimitri Petratos secured a 1-0 victory for Mohun Bagan Super Giant over 10-man Odisha FC, clinching the Indian Super League (ISL) Shield title in front of a capacity crowd at Salt Lake Stadium on Sunday. The victory makes Mohun Bagan the first team in ISL history to retain the League Shield.

Mohun Bagan’s triumph, achieved with two matches remaining, sees them finish the league stage with a record-breaking 52 points. The win also guarantees them a direct entry into the ISL Cup semi-finals and secures a place in the AFC Champions League Two continental competition.

After being held goalless by a resolute Odisha FC defense throughout regulation time, Petratos, who entered the match in the 78th minute, proved to be the match-winner. He produced a moment of brilliance in the third minute of added time, curling a left-footed shot from the edge of the box into the bottom corner of the net.

This victory surpasses Mohun Bagan’s previous season’s Shield win, which was secured with a victory over Mumbai City FC in the final league match. This season’s triumph was marked by a series of dominant performances, including setting new ISL records for the highest points tally (52) and most clean sheets (14) in a single season.

Mohun Bagan struggled to break down Odisha’s defense for much of the match, with the visitors’ backline repeatedly thwarting the hosts’ attacks. However, Odisha’s resistance was significantly weakened in the 83rd minute when Senegalese center-back Mourtada Fall was sent off for a professional foul on Jamie McLaren just outside the penalty area. Mohun Bagan capitalized on their numerical advantage, maintaining pressure until Petratos’ decisive strike secured a historic victory.
