Real Madrid’s Appeal Against Bellingham’s Ban Rejected

Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham will miss two La Liga matches after the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) rejected the club’s appeal against his red card. Bellingham was dismissed in the 39th minute of Real Madrid’s 1-1 draw with Osasuna on Saturday for foul and abusive language towards referee Jose Luis Munuera Montero.

The RFEF disciplinary committee ruled that Bellingham should be banned for two matches due to his “disrespectful or inconsiderate attitudes towards referees.” Real Madrid appealed the decision, but the Appeals Committee upheld the ban, stating that the club had not provided sufficient evidence to overturn the referee’s report.

Bellingham will now miss Real Madrid’s upcoming La Liga matches against Girona and Real Betis. The 21-year-old midfielder has been a key player for Real Madrid this season, scoring seven goals and providing six assists in 20 league appearances.

Real Madrid have expressed their disappointment with the decision and maintain that Bellingham’s language was misconstrued by the referee. They plan to appeal the ban to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

Bellingham’s absence will be a blow to Real Madrid, who are currently level on points with Barcelona at the top of La Liga. They will need to cope without the influential midfielder in two crucial league matches as they look to maintain their title challenge.

Despite the La Liga ban, Bellingham will be available for Real Madrid’s Champions League last-16 first leg against Liverpool on March 4th. He will also be eligible to play in the Copa del Rey semi-final first leg against Real Sociedad on March 9th.

This incident has further strained the relationship between Real Madrid and the RFEF, with the club recently criticizing the standard of refereeing in La Liga. The RFEF has condemned the online abuse and threats directed at referee Montero since the match, highlighting the ongoing issue of respect for officials in Spanish football.
