Robin van Persie ‘s Feyenoord Coaching Debut Ends in Goalless Draw

Robin van Persie ‘s tenure as Feyenoord manager began with a frustrating 0-0 draw at home against NEC Nijmegen in the Eredivisie on Saturday. The result represents a missed opportunity for Feyenoord to climb into third place, leaving them in fourth.

Van Persie, 41, was appointed last weekend following the dismissal of Brian Priske. The former Arsenal and Manchester United striker, whose playing career began and ended at Feyenoord, received a warm reception upon his return to De Kuip. He had previously worked as a youth team coach at the club before leaving at the end of last season to take up his first head coaching role at Heerenveen. Feyenoord paid compensation to secure his return.

Van Persie holds the record for most goals scored for the Netherlands national team, with 50 goals in 102 appearances.

The draw followed a defeat for defending champions PSV Eindhoven at Go Ahead Eagles, meaning Ajax Amsterdam can extend their lead at the top of the table to eight points with a victory at Almere City on Sunday.

Feyenoord’s attention now turns to the Champions League, where they face a challenging last-16 tie against Inter Milan. They host the Italian side in the first leg on Wednesday. Van Persie’s debut, while lacking a victory, marks the beginning of a new chapter for both the manager and the club.
