Roma Rally to Beat 10-Man Como in Thriller

Roma rallied to win against Como at the stadio olimpica. The victory extends Roma’s unbeaten league run to 11 matches and maintains their 12-match unbeaten home streak against Como.

The early stages of the match saw both teams evenly matched. Como’s Ivan Smolcic had the first significant chance, creating space for himself on the edge of the box but shooting wide. Roma’s best opportunity fell to Paulo Dybala, who forced a sharp reaction save from Como goalkeeper Jean Butez.

Como, however, took a surprise lead just before halftime. Maximo Perrone provided a precise pass for Lucas Da Cunha, who tapped the ball into an empty net. The goal was notable as Como had previously scored only three away goals before halftime all season, the fewest in Serie A.

The visitors could have doubled their advantage just before the hour mark, but Patrick Cutrone, free in the box, failed to find the corner, allowing Roma goalkeeper Mile Svilar to make a save.

The miss proved costly as Roma equalized shortly after. Alexis Saelemaekers collected the ball in the area and unleashed a powerful shot into the roof of the net. This marked Saelemaekers’ sixth goal contribution in 2025, the highest in the Roma squad.

Como’s situation worsened immediately after the equalizer. Marc-Oliver Kempf was sent off for a second bookable offense, reducing the visitors to 10 men.

The drama continued as Como thought they had retaken the lead, but Assane Diao, aiming to become only the third player in Serie A history to score in four consecutive matches before turning 20, had his goal disallowed for offside.

Instead, it was Roma who scored the decisive goal. Devyne Rensch provided a pass to Artem Dovbyk in the area, and the Ukrainian striker made no mistake, finding the bottom corner.

Como did not give up and almost leveled through Mergim Vojvoda, who struck the post from outside the area.

Ultimately, Roma held on for a crucial victory, lifting them to eighth in the table and within four points of the European places. Como, despite the defeat, remain six points clear of the relegation zone, in 13th. They missed an opportunity for three consecutive top-flight win, a feat not done by the team since 1952.
