Sadio Mane out of World Cup after knee surgery
Sadio Mane of Senegal will miss the World Cup after undergoing surgery on a knee injury sustained while playing for Bayern Munich.
Senegal’s football federation announced on Tuesday that Mane, 30, would miss their “first games” at the tournament.
However, an additional MRI scan on Thursday revealed that surgical intervention was required.
On November 8, Mane was forced off during Bayern’s Bundesliga victory over Werder Bremen.
Bayern Munich confirmed on Thursday that the player “underwent successful surgery” to attach a tendon to the head of his right fibula.
