Salah Breaks Premier League Record as Liverpool Clinch Title
Mohamed Salah became the Premier League’s all-time leading foreign goalscorer on Sunday, netting his 185th goal in the competition as Liverpool secured the 2024-25 title with a commanding 5-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield.
The Egyptian forward surpassed former Manchester City striker Sergio Agüero’s tally of 184 goals when he scored Liverpool’s fourth goal in the 63rd minute, cutting inside and firing low past Guglielmo Vicario. Salah celebrated the historic goal and the impending title win by taking a selfie with jubilant fans in the Kop end.
“To win the Premier League here with the fans is special, it’s an incredible feeling,” Salah said after the match, contrasting it with the title won behind closed doors in 2020. “This is way better than five years ago, without a shadow of a doubt.”
Salah, who joined Liverpool from AS Roma in 2017 after a brief earlier spell with Chelsea (where he scored two Premier League goals), achieved the milestone in his 297th appearance in the English top flight. The goal against Spurs was his 28th in the league this season and his 33rd in all competitions. It also marked his 46th Premier League goal contribution (28 goals, 18 assists) of the campaign, just one shy of the record jointly held by Andy Cole and Alan Shearer (47).
Now fifth on the overall Premier League all-time scorers list, Salah recently committed his future to Liverpool by signing a new two-year contract extension earlier this month. His record-breaking goal provided another memorable moment on the day Liverpool clinched their record-equalling 20th English league title.
