Villa extended their lead in the 38th minute when Jacob Ramsey capitalized on a defensive mistake, slotting home from close range. Ollie Watkins had a goal disallowed before halftime, but Villa maintained control.
Despite two disallowed goals, Villa sealed the win late in the game when Amadou Onana fired home in the 86th minute. The 3-0 victory was a perfect start for Unai Emeryโs side, who will face Bayern Munich next at Villa Park.
Young Boys, winners of the Swiss Super League last season, struggled to match Villaโs quality despite their early threats. Villaโs defense, led by goalkeeper Emi Martรญnez, held firm to secure the clean sheet.
Villaโs players wore black armbands in tribute to Shaw, and the teamโs performance was a fitting tribute to the club legend as they continue their European journey.
