Anfield witnessed a captivating Premier League encounter on Saturday as Liverpool, despite being reduced to 10 men, battled back twice to secure a 2-2 draw against a resolute Fulham side.1 The match was a rollercoaster of emotions, featuring controversial decisions, moments of individual brilliance, and a late twist that left both teams with a share of the spoils.

The Cottagers drew first blood in the 11th minute when Andreas Pereira met a deflected cross with a clinical volley, leaving Alisson Becker rooted to the spot.2 The visitors’ joy was amplified just six minutes later when Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson was given his marching orders. A VAR review confirmed that Robertson had denied Harry Wilson a clear goalscoring opportunity with a cynical foul, leaving referee Stuart Attwell with little choice but to brandish the red card.

Despite the numerical disadvantage, Liverpool refused to crumble. Though Wilson’s resulting free-kick sailed narrowly over the bar, the Reds regrouped and continued to threaten. Luis Diaz came close with a header before the break, but it was Cody Gakpo who ignited Anfield early in the second half. Latching onto a sublime cross from Mohamed Salah, Gakpo powered home a header to level the scores and inject renewed belief into the home side.

With the Anfield crowd roaring their support, Liverpool pushed for a second, with Salah himself coming close on two occasions. However, against the run of play, Fulham regained the lead in the 73rd minute. A swift counter-attack culminated in Bobby Decordova-Reid squaring the ball for Rodrigo Muniz, who calmly slotted home to silence the home crowd.

The drama was far from over, though. With time ticking away, Diogo Jota, making his long-awaited return from injury, emerged as Liverpool’s hero. In the 86th minute, the Portuguese forward expertly controlled a cross before firing a low shot past Bernd Leno to spark wild celebrations in the Kop.

The final minutes were a frantic affair, with both sides pushing for a winner, but ultimately the points were shared. The draw sees Liverpool maintain their lead at the top of the Premier League table, five points clear of Chelsea, who face Brentford on Sunday. Arsenal, meanwhile, remain in third place after being held to a goalless draw by Everton.
