Barcelona emphatically returned to the top of La Liga with a 4-0 victory over 10-man Real Sociedad at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys. The win restores Barcelona’s one-point lead over Atletico Madrid, who had briefly claimed the top spot after defeating Athletic Bilbao 1-0 on Saturday. The victory also extends Barcelona’s winning streak to six matches.

Real Sociedad, currently ninth in the table and preparing for a Europa League last-16 tie against Manchester United on Thursday, March 6th, were hampered by an early red card. Defender Aritz Elustondo was dismissed in the 17th minute for a professional foul on Dani Olmo, who was through on goal. The visitors had defeated Barcelona 1-0 in their previous meeting in November.

Barcelona capitalized on their numerical advantage almost immediately. In the 25th minute, Lamine Yamal, after maneuvering past his marker, combined with Olmo to set up full-back Gerard Martin, who scored at the back post. It was Martin’s first goal for Barcelona.

Four minutes later, Olmo was again instrumental in doubling the lead. His shot from the edge of the box deflected in off Marc Casado, also registering his first goal for the club.

The hosts continued their dominance, adding a third goal shortly after. Pedri struck the woodwork with a curling effort, and from the resulting corner, Ronald Araujo headed home Raphinha’s inswinging delivery.

Robert Lewandowski completed the scoring in the 60th minute, diverting Araujo’s shot past goalkeeper Alex Remiro.

The comprehensive victory underlines Barcelona’s title credentials and their strong form under manager Hansi Flick. Real Sociedad, reduced to 10 men for over 70 minutes, struggled to contain Barcelona’s attacking prowess.
