Richarlison scored a magnificent brace, including a stunning scissor kick, to inspire Tottenham Hotspur to a comfortable 3-0 victory over newly-promoted Burnley on Saturday, handing new manager Thomas Frank a perfect start to his Premier League tenure.

The Brazilian forward, who scored only four Premier League goals last season, opened the scoring after just 10 minutes with a sharp turn and finish. He then added a spectacular acrobatic volley in the second half before Brennan Johnson sealed the victory with a third goal.

The result marked a successful first league match in charge for Frank, who replaced Ange Postecoglou in June, and provided a welcome boost for a Spurs side that finished 17th last season.

Richarlison’s first goal was set up by an excellent run and cross from Mohammed Kudus, who was making his league debut following a £55 million move from West Ham. The pair combined again for the second, with Kudus delivering a high cross that Richarlison met with an emphatic overhead kick, which was replayed on the stadium screens to the delight of the home supporters.

Spurs completed the scoring in the 66th minute when Pape Matar Sarr played Johnson through on goal for a composed, clinical finish. Richarlison received a standing ovation when he was substituted shortly after.

For Burnley, it was a difficult return to the top flight. Managed by former Spurs midfielder Scott Parker, the Clarets were defensively resolute in their Championship-winning campaign last season, keeping 30 clean sheets. However, they were breached early and struggled to contain a vibrant Tottenham attack.

The visitors had a strong penalty appeal turned down at the end of the first half when Jaidon Anthony appeared to be bundled over by Pedro Porro, but their resistance faded after Richarlison’s spectacular second goal.

What’s next?

Tottenham face a tough trip to face Manchester City next Saturday. Burnley will play their first home game of the season against fellow promoted side Sunderland.
