Jota’s Family to Attend Anfield Tribute
Liverpool will pay tribute to their former forward Diogo Jota at Anfield on Friday, during their Premier League opener against Bournemouth. Jota’s family, including his wife Rute Cardoso and their children, are expected to be present.
Honouring a Former Star
Jota tragically died at the age of 28 in a car accident in northern Spain last month, alongside his brother Andre Silva, 25. The Premier League will hold a minute’s silence at all matches this weekend, with players wearing black armbands. Images and messages will also be shown on big screens at stadiums.
Special Tribute at Anfield
Liverpool will host a fan-led tribute, unveiling a special mosaic in both the Kop and the Sir Kenny Dalglish Stand during the silence. Manager Arne Slot said this will be “a very emotional occasion” and stressed the importance of showing Jota’s family “love and support” during this time.
A Lasting Memory
The Liverpool squad will wear a ‘Forever 20’ emblem on their shirts and jackets for the entire season. Jota wore the number 20 shirt when Liverpool won their record-equalling 20th English league title last season. After discussions with his family, the club decided to retire the shirt number in his honour.
Tributes Beyond Anfield
Wolves, Jota’s former club, will also honour him during their opening match against Manchester City on Saturday.
