Romelu Lukaku scored twice late on as Belgium produced a stunning comeback to defeat Ukraine 3-0 in the second leg of their UEFA Nations League playoff, securing a 4-3 aggregate victory and retaining their place in League A. The match, played in Cegeka Arena, Genk, saw the hosts overturn a two-goal first-leg deficit.

Ukraine, holding a commanding lead from the first leg, defended resolutely for much of the match, frustrating a dominant Belgium side. Goalkeeper Andriy Lunin was instrumental in keeping the hosts at bay.

However, Belgium finally broke through in the 70th minute. Substitute Maxim De Cuyper scored with a first-time effort after a quick pass from Jeremy Doku.

Lukaku then leveled the aggregate score in the 75th minute, connecting brilliantly with a Kevin De Bruyne cross to volley home. Ukraine almost responded immediately, but Artem Dovbyk’s header was saved by Matz Sels, who had replaced Thibaut Courtois in goal.

Lukaku sealed Belgium’s victory, and their League A survival, in the 86th minute. He scored his second goal of the match with a low shot past Lunin, taking his international tally to an impressive 88 goals. Despite the late goals, Lunin pulled off key saves.

The comeback victory represents a significant turnaround for Belgium under new manager Rudi Garcia, who had overseen a disappointing first-leg defeat. The result relieves pressure on the coach and ensures Belgium will continue to compete among Europe’s elite in the Nations League.
