Sevilla dismissed manager Javier García Pimienta on Sunday, April 13th, following a run of four consecutive La Liga defeats that has left the club struggling in the bottom half of the table. The decision came two days after a 1-0 loss away to Valencia.
García Pimienta, 50, was appointed in July 2024 on a two-year deal, replacing Quique Sánchez Flores. He arrived with a strong reputation after leading Las Palmas to promotion and securing their La Liga survival the following season.
However, Sevilla, the seven-time Europa League champions, have endured a difficult campaign. They currently sit 13th in La Liga with 36 points from 31 games, well adrift of the European qualification places and only seven points clear of the relegation zone. The recent losing streak proved decisive for the club’s board.
“Sevilla would like to thank Garcia Pimienta for his work over these months, and his professionalism, wishing him best luck in future endeavours,” the club said in a statement confirming the dismissal.
Sevilla now begin the search for a new manager ahead of their next La Liga match against Deportivo Alaves on April 20th. Spanish media have speculated that Joaquín Caparrós could be appointed as interim manager until the end of the season, a role he has previously filled for the Andalusian club.
