Why is PSG star Ousmane Dembele Dropped for Arsenal Clash? Arguably the best player at the moment, the French international has been omitted from the squad for their crucial Champions League match against Arsenal, with manager Luis Enrique citing the player’s failure to meet team requirements as the reason for his exclusion.
Despite Dembele’s impressive record of four goals in six league games, Luis Enrique made the difficult decision to leave him out of the squad for Tuesday’s high-stakes European fixture. The manager emphasized that this was not due to any argument between them but rather a matter of team dynamics and player responsibility.
“If someone doesn’t comply with the requirements of the team, it means that they are not ready,” Luis Enrique stated in a press conference. He stressed the importance of having every player fully available for such a significant week and match.
While French media had speculated about disciplinary reasons following a reported discussion after PSG’s 3-1 victory over Rennes, Luis Enrique refuted these claims. He insisted there was no argument but rather “a problem with the player’s responsibility to the team.”
The manager defended his decision, explaining the complexities of team-building: “You think it is easy to create a team. You press a button, and the 11 best players play, and everything goes well. No, making a team takes a certain amount of circumstances that can be difficult.”
Luis Enrique remained firm on his stance, stating he would make the same decision “100 more times” if necessary. However, he also noted that the situation is not irreversible, leaving the door open for Dembele’s return to the squad in the future.
The coach reiterated his commitment to creating a cohesive team at PSG, emphasizing bravery, daring play, and good football as his objectives. He made it clear that team-building will remain his priority throughout his tenure at the club.
As PSG prepares to face Arsenal following their 1-0 victory against Girona in their Champions League opener, the absence of Dembele adds an extra layer of intrigue to the high-profile encounter.
